The phone rang today at our business and it turned out to be a caller from Germany who was testing Jaxtr. The astonishing thing was the call was so clear we thought it was somebody in our town, having no idea that the callwas routed from Germany courtesy of Jaxtr. The call also went to California, through our RingCentral PBX, then on to Missouri over the regular telephone network. We answered using a 5.8 GHz cordless phone.
I received a call from Iraq last night. Actually I received four free Jaxtr phone calls by the time we finished for the night. The caller was a woman asking about Jaxtr. She apologized for her English but I thought she spoke very well. I knew I should have learned Arabic when I lived in Saudi Arabia, and told the woman so. Unfortunately I was not able to answer all of the woman’s questions so I refered her to Megan at Jaxtr.
When you stop to think about how I route my Jaxtr calls to my RingCentral switchboard, and then on to my cell phone, the clarity of free Jaxtr international calls always amazes me. I received 54 new voice messages this month, and received calls from many countries including some I haven’t heard from before. Free Jaxtr calls from South Africa and Israel made my list this month. I noticed that more people are signing up for Jaxtr, which means I can return a call just by clicking on their screen name.
The integration of social networks and VoIP click-to-call offerings recently began to seem like a viable new possibility for increasingly marginalized voice services, giving them both direction and method for reaching a whole new generation of users. However, bloggers and other industry observers are noting that the early progress of social network voice offering may mitigate that hope. Voice-related Facebook applications, for example, reportedly have less than 12,000 daily users, which is less than 3% of the total Facebook audience. It’s still early in the evolution of these offerings, but if the viral adoption patterns and instantaneous word of mouth available through social networks can’t help redefine voice as an application, what can?
New Jaxtr calls this week include free telephone calls from Colombia, Morroco, Algeria and the United States. jaxtr calls are free for the person who called and the person receiving the call. My callers in Colombia, Morroco and Algeria got free local telephone numbers from Jaxtr. In addition to free phone calls you can also send voicemail or text messages. I was surprised by the quality, clarity, and tone of the call from Colombia.
